The Florida State College at Jacksonville Nassau Center in Yulee, FL is the home of the Outdoor Education Center (OEC).
The OEC is tucked quietly in the forest of rural northeast FL, so removed you might forget that while there you're actually learning. Florida State College at Jacksonville's Nassau Outdoor Education Center is located just 20 miles north of downtown Jacksonville. Under a full canopy of trees, the Center offers the opportunity for corporate or organizational training through team building exercises, the low ropes course and climbing wall. All of our programs are custom designed for the purpose of building solid cohesive teams.
To help bring back the use of this beautiful facility and team building programs, FSCJ has recruited personnel from various departments throughout the campus from athletics, student services and more. These individuals took the day to learn and refresh their knowledge and skills needed to be a facilitator. It was an exciting day filled with learning the necessary safety protocols, training guidelines, rock climbing techniques and team building concepts used on the low elements of the ropes course.
The facilitators spent the morning with an Alpine Towers instructor who educated them on proper harness fit, learning how to tie safety knots, the use of various equipment and proper terminology needed before taking turns scaling the 40 foot rock wall. After lunch the group moved to the low ropes elements to cover each elements purpose and safety techniques. It was full day of education and team building even for the facilitators.
Soon the OEC will be open and available for reservations for groups. We recommend that you fill your lungs with fresh air, fill your ears with the sounds of nature and open your mind to a new learning environment for group development and personal growth.
