The 2017-2018 BlueWave Baseball Team won the overall Team Life Skills Championship Tuesday Night at the Annual Athletic Department Awards Ceremony.
The baseball team also won three out of five of the categories in the BlueWave Life Skills contest garnering more points per player than the other 5 athletic teams.
The baseball team won the categories of Academic Excellence, Career Development and Service. The BlueWave Women's Basketball Team won the category of Personal Development and the Women's Volleyball Team won the category of Athletic Excellence. Team members participate individually and collectively as a group in a variety of workshops, service endeavors, and individual sessions to enhance their life experience on campus. The baseball team participated in eleven service endeavors and made a committment partnership to HabiJax where they helped build several houses off of Mayport Road. In addition, the baseball team garnered points with a high team GPA of 3.37 while earning 2nd in the State in overall team GPA. The Women's Basketball team participated in multiple on campus workshops and had several players in leadership roles throughout the campus and community. The Women's Volleyball team won the Panhandle Conference, Player of the Year for the Panhandle Conference, had multiple players earn All-Conference, two players earn All-Region and they had an All-American (Kaylon Cruickshank) to garner the Athletic Excellence award.
The BlueWave Life Skills program started in 2016-2017 as a way to measure the wholistic approach to serving student athletes, an initiative important to the BlueWave Athletic Department. The life skills program is a replica of the NCAA CHAMPS Life Skills program which shows evidence of student athlete's positive development in multiple areas related to student success.
