The BlueWave Athletic Department continues to grow. We now oversee five campus fitness centers (South, North, Kent, Downtown and Deerwood Center) and have expanded FSCJ’s intramural and club opportunities for all students. Additionally, in fall 2017, with the elimination of women’s tennis, we added women’s and men’s cross country. This change has allowed our department to serve a large group of district and regional student athletes with a program that has historically been very successful at FSCJ. In 1982 and 1983, FSCJ women’s cross country won the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Championship. We look forward to more championship titles to come.
We implemented the BlueWave Life Skills program to provide a more holistic experience for student athletes, focusing on five key components – personal development, service, athletic excellence, academic excellence and financial/career development. Through this program, athletic teams led or participated in various community service projects.
As we move into the 2018-19 athletic season, we will focus on increased promotion through live web streaming of home games for volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball. We will also continue to spotlight player profiles on GoBlueWave.com, providing more of a social media platform for student athletes to develop group followers.
We look forward to continued academic success for our teams and student-athletes. Please make some time to come on out to show your support for our student-athletes and to see some exciting games.
